Aug 20 - Area 10 report from Don Williams
With an expected very few days left in Area 10 for Kings l decided to go there even though l have a bunch of work to do at home. After all there are higher priorities. Mike Duncan joined me to fish the outgoing tide, we hit the north end by the piling marker and in three passes l caught two Kings and a silver. One
King was 12#, both wilds. All hit a Gibbs Herring Aid at 64' down in 100' of water. After the bite dropped off we moved south to Jefferson Head. Mike promptly put on a green spackle back hoochie with a strip of herring, behind an all yellow flasher. Yep, that's right. Within 3 minutes he had a hit and put a 8.5# in the boat. We kept going out towards mid channel, then decided why not go back to where we caught the King. Yep, within 5 minutes Mike had a keeper silver. So after a few minutes, back we went to our starting point again, thanks to GPS tracking. Mike had another hit and he generously handed me his pole, it was a 12.5# keeper. All fish were around 65' down in 110' of water. We decided was time to head home as the bite ended. We figure we caught the three fish in a little over 30 minutes, the best 30 minutes of the year!!! Later today the game Dept. decided Saturday will be the last day for King fishing in Area 10. This report, l hope will be helpful, at least for one more day. Can't catch em unless you try.

Paul R. tells tales of Area 10
Well it's been awhile since I've reported on anything so I may be a bit out of practice but I'll do my best to get the details nobody cares about in as well as a cool pic of a sexy fish and a meh fisherman. I was very fortunate to take out 2 of the most un-attentive but apparently luckiest fisherman ever, Don White and Bob Dean. I'll give a pass to some degree only because The Great White's stories are epic and never ending....don't ever change that Mr The Great White, and you can't help but get caught up in those stories. We departed Port of Kingston at just before 6 am, dropped in shallow at Presidents Point and within 20 minutes of White's stories and Bob's laughter as they sit on the stern facing forward, you guessed it, I yell 'FISH ON!!' pointing frantically to Bob to get on his reel! The Great White pulls his gear, we clear down riggers thinking this fish is better than decent, White-caps (might have something here, sorry Don) takes the helm controls and I position to net the fish. Within a few short moments the hatchery 7-8 lb chinook is on the deck, though not what it seemed to be in size it's still supposedly Bob's first area 10 summer king. Proud kid moment for me. I spin us around as they reset gear and next pass through again same scenario, Don story, Bob facing forward and me yelling, we hook up again but not to be as this fish had other plans then meeting the bonk bats 'Tang' or 'Diva' on the boat. Spin around again and almost to the mark listening to Don's stories, Bob facing forward and me yelling we hooked up but a short this time. The bite dies off so I decide to move out a bit and we found the bait and pelicans...yes pelicans. Don tried to give them a google map tutorial to Florida but the bait was too hot and heavy to care. We start are 2nd pass into the bait then.... if you can't figure out the sequence by now I can't help you but it involved me yelling...again. Bob hands the rod off the White-caps and after a really fun several runs we put a gorgeous hook nose coho on the boat, pushing 6 maybe 7 lbs. These fish were caught on green and white 3" spoon and with a ton of luck. Remember the pic of a sexy fish and a meh fisherman....

Area 10 Kings!
King fishing continues to be very good in A10 with the size and run getting better each day. We've been hitting kings every trip: Kingston, Jeff Head, Richmond Beach and Meadowpoint are turning out some quality fish. The algae bloom at Jefferson Head is mostly gone and the tides have been ideal.
The 3.0 and 3.5 Cookies and Creme and Herring Aid spoons have been getting it done. First drop and pass this morning Had a double with both fish ripping off the heavy offshore releases and a 34.5" and 30" to the net.
Get out there now while the crowds seem to be mostly focused on pinks and or thinking tuna, or other pursuits. Crowds and low and fish are on the chew. FISH ON!!!

July 20 Fishing report
Pole Dancer fishing report 7-20-21.
Ted McDaniel and Mark McCutchen started fishing PNP at 0530 at 120 foot depth heading toward Foul Weather Bluff. About half way through Skunk Bay the starboard rod popped, as I started to reel and flipped the switch on the downrigger we soon heard voices from a nearby boat. “Hey! I think you have our fish”. Sure enough, their gear and fish was tangled with one of our lines. As we were trying to figure out how to handle this situation the downrigger continued to grind its way to the surface. Very quickly the situation was solved, the entire mess of gear came up from the depths wrapped around the downrigger cable. As luck would have it, the downrigger stops had also slid down the downrigger cable eliminating any automatic stop feature. Consequently, the gear and the fish were now firmly jammed against the downrigger pulley. The fish was now hanging precariously from the tangle of line, flashers and hooks. The fish was now about a foot out of the water looking about as stunned as the four fisherman staring at it… After carefully working the net under the fish we were able unhook it. After a quick photo op with the fish and Ted, we returned the fish and the gear to the nearby boat. This fish was caught on a chrome with purple striped flasher and white hoochie.
Continuing on, we reached Foul Weather with no other action. Making the turn I changed tackle and started trolling back south in 120 feet of water. Just past the inside corner, the starboard pole released and went slack, reeling down triggered a fantastic battle as the fish ripped line during multiple runs. Thanks to the skillful netting by Ted we boated a 20.4 lb fish. The fish was caught in 120 ft. of water, downrigger ball on the bottom, Purple haze flasher, Ace Hi Fly, and Ultra violet hoochie…

Morning fish off Skunk Bay on Tuesday. Fish about 120 ft.
August 1 - Point No Point report
Sunday morning Doug Miller and I fished the incoming tide starting just south of Point No Point fishing between 90 -120 ft on the wire. Trolling south there was a little scattered bait and the occasional mark on the screen. Just south of pilot point about noon just before high slack we landed a beautiful 18 lb king. aprox 110 ft on the wire, bouncing the bottom. Purple Tail wagger, purple flasher. B Nixon

Dennis Carkonen gets it done with a couple nice Kings off Foul weather bluff. Fish were caught in 112 feet of water trolling Gibs skinny G behind moon jelly flashers. Fishing has been good !
Fishing Report - July 20 - Jim Fendrich
Five of us fished with charter captain Dale Drogseth on Ruby D Charters (425-501-1011) on Tuesday, 7/20/21. We fished Possession Point, Jeff Head and the Tank Farm. All 5 caught fish but some were not legal. My grandson, Mason, caught 2 kings at 12# and 14# using a green and white spoon and a green and white hoochie with a herring strip. The first at Possession and the 2nd at Jeff Head. My son, Matt, caught a small silver. We fished near the bottom unless the bait was suspended.
The charter boat was a North River 28 which was well equipped and well run. The skipper picked us up at Kingston. Six or even boats charter out of Edmonds. WE all had fun and would do it again. The charter for five cost $1150.
Fishing Report - Brett Campbell
First time to get our and fish this year. My son Colby and I were able to get our Tuesday at about 7:30 PM for a quick troll. We dropped in at the north end of Foul weather at 95' and 5 minutes later BOOM! Fish on. The next day we went out about 5:30 PM dropped in right next to Steve Lindberg and did one pass - nothing - went for another pass and BOOM - fish on. Colby caught both and it was a blast!
July 21 Fishing and tape worm report - Bruce Nixon
I fished Skunk Bay Wednesday afternoon approx. 2pm. I began fishing 1/4 mile inside the buoy 90-110 ft on the wire. There were numerous marks on the screen and a little bait. In less than 1/2 hr I picked up a nice 10 Lb King. 100 ft on the wire/purple tale wager about a mile from buoy just making the corner in the bay. However when I cleaned the fish along with some herring there was a very large tape worm in the stomach. 2-3 mm wide and I estimated probably 20- 30 ft long still alive! I checked on the internet about the tape worm and here is a little info. It is ok to eat the fish IF it has been cooked and or frozen to 14 deg F. It should NOT be eaten raw as in Sushi. They were not seen in Alaskan Salmon until about 30 years ago but are becoming more common. Main lesson is be sure you check the stomach of your fish! For more info about salmon tape worms check the net. B Nixon
July 20 Fishing Report - Daron Jagozinke & Scott Lomas
Went fishing this morning for the first time in 2021. So happy to pull in a 10lb right before 10am! 182’ of water, 142’ of cable in front of the blue roof by Craven. 3” cookies and cream, green hornet flasher. My son and I also brought home a couple of coho as well off the same combo. Daron Jagodzinske

Fishing report July 19 - Don White
Nancy, Sparky and I went out for a little breakfast cruise this morning. Thanks to a rare alarm setting issue, we got a little extra sleep. Everything happens for a reason, though...right? It seems that the bite in Skunk Bay/Point No Point has been stretched out past the standard "hour after change".
At around 08:50, we drifted in to 75 FOW in front of the Hansgrille, and the rod went straight up. When I reeled down, I thought maybe I had bottom...catching 8 pounders will do that to you! After several nice runs, Nancy expertly scooped the 16# bright hatchery hen into the net. Sparky gave an approving sniff and took a nap.
You might be able to guess that it was on a purple tailwagger and morning mist flasher. I tried running another setup on the other side, but I'm not sure why!

Fly Fishing in Alaska - any tips on Fly rods??
HI there,
I am in Alaska and did some fly fishing up on a stream and am HOOKED..literally hooked my arm. But anyway... wondering if anyone in the club could give me some tips on a rod to buy for a newbie and some good spots to fly fish when I return home? I caught endless pinks up here. Thank you as always! Chimena Campbell
July 2021 Mini and Legends Derby Winners!!
AP 7/17/2021: NKPSA FISHERMEN FLIP FLOP 2020 MINI AND LEGENDS RESULTS
The NKPSA fishermen and Salmon must have had strategy meetings before the 7/16/2021 Area 9 opening to remind themselves of the 2020 results. Those that can remember a whole year ago realized that the Salmon won the mini derby and fishermen rebounded to win the legends derby. This year was a complete flip flop. The 2021 mini derby had 61 fishermen that brought home 30 fish to the scales. 24 hours later, the salmon got revenge as 65 fishermen had 18 fish weighed. The big fish seemed to come from craven and mid channel for the mini derby and then swung south to foulweather bluff and skunk bay for the legends derby.
Mini Derby Results:
1st: Vince Cushen 18.25# $200
2nd: Marty Antrim16.75#, $140
3rd: Dave Allen 16.50#, $100
4th: Don White 12.35#, $30
Mystery Fish: Carl Clogston 8.80#, $15
Legends Derby Results:
1st: Fred Ensman 15.30# $600
2nd: Matt Dimeo 11.75#, $450
3rd: Gary Edin 11.40#, $300
4th: Steve Lindberg 8.95#, $100
Mystery Fish: Chuck Mickelson 6.30#, $50
Thanks to all who participated.
Special thanks to our volunteers who weighed fish, handled the books, and of course served a fabulous meal both days. These derbies can’t succeed without them.
Also, a big thankyou to all of the members for their continued generosity for the Armed Forces Derby. We are still looking for captains so we can invite more guys and gals.
Andy Mgebroff, Derby Chair, Over and Out
"The most emotional and heartfelt acceptance speech we have ever seen! So happy to see these brothers together dedicating the win to their Mom!" - Don White, NKPSA President
July 18 - Garret Cisek - Fishing Report
On water for less than an hour and brought this sexy gal home for dinner! Nearly 13lbs at point no point. I’ve been almost exclusively fishing herring aid coho killer chartreuse flasher (last season winning combo for me). 110-130ft of water fishing bottom or near bottom. 40-44” leader. Hooked up with plenty of action everyday out. Fishing with this combo at craven rock and point no point worked. Had several monsters that felt like Moby Dick was on the line but couldn’t get them OTB:) One nearly straightened my hook out. Time of day didn’t seem to matter much, we hooked up morning, afternoon, and early evening.
July 18 - Dave Werner Fishing Report
Fished Skunk Bay this morning. Picked up a 10-12 and a 15. Both fish on purple tailwagger right on bottom. One in 110 FOW and other in 155 FOW.
