Chuck M. report on Coho trip out of Westport

My son, grandson and I were scheduled for the club tuna trip on August 25th on the Goldrush out of Westport. Tuna trip was canceled due to lack of tuna, too far out etc. We were at the docks on the 24th and one boat had gone out and brought back two tuna. Another one was out overnight and only got 44 so we were glad the captain canceled.

Anyway, he replaced the tuna trip with a coho trip for me, my son and 12 of my new best friends! Glad we went. Left the dock at 5:30, started fishing about 7. Had our limits at 10:15. Captains yelling—stop fishing! It was fast and furious. Several times we had 2 or 3 coho on at the same time. That is when you meet your new best friend-going over or under their rod and trying to get out of the way of the crew who are trying to net the fish. Caught a few sharks who usually cut the line, lots of wild coho that went back in the water, some mackerel, a king and a pink. We were back at the dock by 11, gathered our fish and left the boat by 11:45 and home by 4 that afternoon—a great day of fishing. Chuck
