Looking for a ride - fishing opportunity - Halibut

Hi,
This is Max, the newest member of NKPSA, I was wondering if anyone would want any company (and the good luck that I bring) for the upcoming halibut openers. I've got my own heavy rod setup, plenty of heavy lead, jigs, big hoochies, and some experience halibut fishing. I am happy to fish my way, or whatever way you prefer on your boat and cab be ready with short notice. I'm glad to chip in for fuel, beer, bait, or whatever is needed.

Pictures of a "little" one I got in S.E. AK about 10 years ago.

My email is maxschw@protonmail.com, and my cell is 619 818 6993
Let me know, thanks!

Dave K. - March Ling Opener - Neah Bay

Headed out to Neah Bay for the Ling Cod opener! Got a few decent size fish! Caught way to many big cabezon! Rented a nice little cabin at the Cape Resort! Had our jugs of ethonal free fuel and a nice ice chest stolen off the front porch of the cabin!

Dave Y. Seiku early September

Spent the first week of Sept. fishing out of Sekiu with friends and family. Picked up maybe a 30lb. halibut at 320 ft south of Pillar Point using double #10 J hooks on wire leader, topped with a glow rubber squid with fins, sweetened with a horse herring, bouncing a 24 oz. ball. They are open daily and many were being caught. We also picked up 1/2 dozen or so true cod in the same area using pipe jigs. Very tasty!Coho fishing was good though you have to work your way through the finned ones, and the many wild chinook. Using green and also white hoochies behind green / white dodgers most often down 50 ft., sometimes out to the shipping lanes.Tight lines!Dave

P.S. Beware of the low tides when mooring.

Scott L. September 9, Posession

Fished area 9 this morning, north side of Possession Bar on the incoming tide. Fishing in 150โ€™-250โ€™ close to the green buoy. Caught 4 hatchery coho, released 3 wild coho and released a king. Also caught and released a bird. Lots of action, lots of bait in the water, very little seaweed. First fish was at 60โ€™ on the wire, others were at 70 and 90โ€™. White hoochies with a herring strip, finished by 9:45. Scott Lomas

Dave H. - September 20, Edmonds

Andy Mgebroff invited me for a fishing trip today. The Captain braved chunky water to travel to Edmonds oil docks we had 3 takedowns along with 3 keepers. 90 feet using Van Langโ€™s recommendation white hoochie with flasher. The Captain allowed me to bring in two! Captain Paul Rockwell verified the larger fish at 10 pounds 11 ounces! Great day thank you Andy.

Mike L. Norwegian Point on Sept 2.

Last Friday I fished Norwegian point from the shore. Right about noon I hooked into a 3 pound Hatchery Coho and got him ashore.

I was using a two. 5 inch glow rotator with a pink micro Hoochie Kokanee squid tail, and double barbless Matzuo UV pink hooks.  (Similar to picture)

Mike L. fishing on Sept 3

Went out on Saturday with some guys from work on a charter out of Kingston by Hooked Up fishing charters.  (Hookedupfishingwa.com). The trips are 8 hours, or until the boat is limited, and the cost is what most charters are charging for 4 hours.

We saw virtually no nets, and our guide was checking with other guides who had zero hits and zero fish.

We limited the boat before noon, steadily.  We lost nearly as many as fish as we landed, due to angler errors (2 guys had never caught a salmon in their lives). I attribute our success to the skill and work ethic of our guides.  They clearly LOVE fishing, and are in it for the fun of Landing fish.  They were constantly scheming, pulling gear, updating bait, pulling lines to clearing seaweed, and trying new colors, depths and presentations when the bite died.

The coho are 3.5 - 5 lbs.  the diver was far more popular than the downriggers on this particular day, and accounted for 2/3 of the fish.  We ran the riggers from 20-80 and adjusted regularly based off of what was on the screen.  For some reason, it was just a diver day.  Morning was green/chartreuse/silver dodgers and green hoochies getting hit, and as the morning went on, purple haze dodgers and Ace high purple hoochies/ candlefish got hot.  Best success South of the main hoards, near the weather buoy.

If you want fish out of Kingston and donโ€™t have a boat handy, I highly recommend this team.

Jim F. - Aug 4 - Kingston

Three generations of Fendrichโ€™s (Jim, Matt and Mason) fished with Capt. Rich Olson with NW Fishing Charters (425-328-4664) out of Edmonds on Thursday, August 4th. He met us at the Kingston dock at 5:00 a.m. and we set off. By 7:13 a.m. we had our limit of coho (6 nice fish in the box) at Jeff Head.

A 7th larger fish (probably a King) got away. (hate when that happens )

The fish were caught on green and white hooches and small kitchen sink and white lures. Between 50โ€™ and 110โ€™.

The skipper was talkative and told stories. We would definitely do it again especially during the height of the silver run.

Brandon R. - Point No Point - 8/3

Im sure its gotten around that today is the last day. If ya want a final crack at a chinook in 9, the point fished well last night on the flood. Max flood it fished best. As the water slowed up, so did the bait and fishing. Troll from the point towards pilot.  We got 3. The point hasnt been great this summer. But it fished good last night.

Dave W. Fishing Report 07/31

I met Mark McCutchen and Ted McDaniel at 0430 to go fishing on the Pole Dancer.  We headed up towards Craven Rock  and stopped short at Nodule in 100' of water to fish for a few minutes to see if we could find any bait or fish on the sounder.  After 15-20 minutes we moved North near the blue house and started trolling North.   We didn't get anything on our first run and decided to head back near the blue house again to start trolling North.  About 0645 I saw my downrigger was hitting bottom and moved it up a couple of feet, as I was watching to see it was no longer bouncing it bounced again....the fish took it off the clip.  The fish didn't feel large when I was reeling it in as it ran towards the boat.  Ted had just got the other downrigger and line out and saw the fish and said it was legal.  Then the fish started fighting a little more as it neared the boat and Ted was able to do a quick net job.  It was a nice 18 pound hatchery fish caught in 115 feet of water on the bottom using a Yellowtail Coho killer.

We ran back down below the blue house and started trolling North again in the 115 foot line, a short while later and Ted's rod went off and after clearing all the gear we netted the fish and had a 12 pound hatchery fish.  This one was also caught right on the bottom but he was using a White Lightning Coho killer.

We decided to turn around and run back below the blue housed and started trolling North again in the 115 foot line, a short while later and Mark's  rod went off and after clearing all the gear we netted the fish and had a 10 pound hatchery fish.  This one was also caught right on the bottom using the original Yellowtail Coho killer.

I added a couple of photos.  Awhile back Greg Reimann sent me a text showing how you can make your fish look bigger by taking pictures using action figures.....I found it also works to use a mini flasher instead of the 11" to make your fish look bigger!

It was a great day to enjoy time on the water!
