I had the privilege of joining the Nixon family for a trip to Sitka, Alaska. Bruce "The G.O.A.T.", "Alaskan Amber", and Josh "I need to learn how to catch a coho before my son-in-law card is revoked!"
Angling Unlimited is an absolute top-notch operation that runs like a freshly tuned Etec (put those eye rolls away...it is a complement of the highest order in my book)! They run purpose-built walk-around aluminium boats with eclosed cabins, and have the mooching technique dialed in pefectly.
Alaskan Amber took the coho derby with the magnificent fish pictured. My favorite part was the variety. While anchored (never before for salmon), on consecutive drops I caught a 12# coho, halibut, lingcod, and one of the biggest seabass of the trip! Believe me when I say that lings and hali are an adventure on lightweight mooching gear!
Final coho awards: G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time)-Most in a day=8. Alaskan Amber- Biggest (somewhere between 16 and 40 pounds, and getting bigger with each passing day!). Josh-First...FINALLY! (SIL Card still valid....for now). Me- Most Fun in the Heartbreak category (Epic battle with a mid-20's king....10 hours before they re-opened them for retention!).
