Friday, Paul Rockwell joined Marty Antrim and I and the three of us fished East Possession Bar. What a blast! Being the skipper, I basically ran the boat, mostly to Paul’s suggestions on fishing the bar contours, while Marty and Paul ran the downriggers. For most of the morning, Paul ran hoochies with a herring strip, and Marty ran spoons or Coho killers. Marty was hot early with a chrome pattern coho killer, then Paul got on fire with a full size white hoochie. We hit fish all morning long, including three beautiful coho 10+ pounds…unfortunately, everyone of these large coho was a native, and happily swam away when released.
We started about 7:00 AM, on an outgoing tide, then fished through the tide change, remaining on the East side the entire time. We settled into a bit of circle pattern, which took us out to 250 ft, then back into 100 ft or less. We marked fish and bait both deep and shallow. Paul settled into 77 ft of cable as his favorite, Marty usually about 85 of cable. These two guys were crazy nuts hot….I believe we brought 16 fish to the boat, not counting shakers, releasing 7 native coho before we got our six fish to limit. 5 pinks, one coho. We also released 3 black mouth.
I hope you can get out there, and if you have the chance take Marty or Paul with you…those two guys can fish!!!
Good Luck, Bob Dean
